In 2006, the new film in the James Bond franchise, Casino Royale, premiered. Gone was the charismatic and stylish Pierce Brosnan with his well-fitted Brioni suits, and on the big screen, we saw a blonde 38-year-old from Chester, England: Daniel Craig.
Craig's casting was criticized in the media for being a significant departure from previous portrayals of Bond. The films became grittier, and the previously light-hearted humor was almost entirely absent. Craig's Bond also had a slightly different style. While Brosnan's Bond almost exclusively wore dark suits, we now saw a much more relaxed look. Although well-tailored suits still make an appearance, Bond often opts for more casual clothing—something we appreciate!
Here are three relaxed-style outfits from Daniel Craig's time as James Bond:
A young Daniel Craig in his favourite pieces from Sunspel.
Outfit: Daniel Craig's signature piece as Bond: the well-fitted navy short-sleeve polo shirt from Sunspel. Known for its luxuriously soft and comfortable cotton fabric, this shirt inspired many men—including myself—to dig out their dark blue polo shirts from the wardrobe. It seems to be a personal favourite, as he wears the same shirt in Spectre! In Casino Royale, he pairs it with khaki pants and dark brown suede shoes, specifically his favourite chukka boots from Crockett & Jones, which appear in several outfits.
Watch: Omega Planet Ocean Ref. 2900.50.91.
Just like during the Brosnan era, we see an Omega on Bond's wrist. This time, it's a large, sporty 45.5mm Planet Ocean with a black rubber strap, perfectly complementing the more relaxed style.
Outfit: In Skyfall, Bond returns to the Scottish Highlands, this time fittingly dressed in a waxed jacket from the English brand Barbour. Pair it with raw denim jeans, brown boots, and a classic knitted sweater underneath. Complete the look with a brown scarf for the perfect autumn style.
Watch: Omega Aqua Terra 231.10.39.21.03.001 “Skyfall”.
My personal favourite among the modern Bond watches. It has the perfect size at 38.5mm and features a deep blue textured dial. Wear it with steel links for a sporty look or tone it down with a leather strap.
Outfit: In Daniel Craig's final film as Bond, the costume designers truly step up their game! Here, perfectly tailored suits are mixed with relaxed linen shirts and jeans. My personal favorited is the green coat he wears with dark trousers and elegant brown chukka boots from Crockett & Jones. To complete the look, a light long-sleeve t-shirt underneath is all you need. This is Daniel Craig at his best.
Watch: Omega Seamaster 210.90.42.20.01.001.
The Seamaster has been Bond's favourite since GoldenEye in 1995. This time, in titanium with a mesh strap instead of the usual steel links. This is the first Seamaster to feature the "Broadarrow" mark on the dial, indicating it has been approved by the British armed forces.
